Big ACA Changes Ahead. PSA Members Have Another Option.
The Affordable Care Act is heading into a major shake-up, and millions of people across the country are going to feel it. That is why PSA partnered with the Kuhlmann Group to bring members a new option called GigCare.
John Kuhlmann, who has worked in health insurance for more than 36 years, explained what is happening and why so many people will be affected.
Many ACA plans are expected to raise their monthly prices next year. Some may go up around 20 percent. Others may go up much higher, even over 100 percent in some areas. United Healthcare has already warned that its increases may land between 30 and 70 percent.
Another big issue is subsidies. These are the discounts many people get from the government to help pay for ACA plans. About 92 percent of people on ACA plans use subsidies. But around 40 percent of those subsidies may be reduced or taken away. If that happens, millions of families will suddenly have much higher monthly costs.
Insurance companies leaving the ACA marketplace make things even harder. Aetna plans to pull out completely. That alone will leave more than one million people without coverage. When you count all the companies stepping away, almost 4 million Americans may lose their ACA plans.
Because of all these changes, PSA looked for a better and more stable option to offer members. That is where GigCare comes in. GigCare already has more than one hundred thousand members across the country and was built for people who do not get insurance through a big employer, which fits many PSA members.
Carrie Hall from GigCare shared some of the main benefits.
Telehealth made simple
If you need quick help for things like pink eye, a cough, or a skin issue, you can talk to a doctor on your phone or computer. You can get a prescription right away without driving across town or sitting in a waiting room.
Mental health support included
Everyone on the plan gets five free therapy visits each year. This is especially helpful for teenagers dealing with stress or social pressures. They can talk privately to a counselor right from home.
Diabetic care delivered to your door
GigCare sends diabetic supplies and medications straight to your home. Type 1 diabetics can get insulin, pumps, and testing supplies. Type 2 diabetics get A1C help and medications delivered so nothing gets missed.
Free MRIs and CT scans through Green Imaging
This is one of the biggest benefits. GigCare gives members a voucher that covers the full cost of MRIs and CT scans at partner imaging centers. At a hospital these scans usually cost 1600 to 3000 dollars. With GigCare, members pay nothing. The results are sent straight to your doctor.
Hall shared that she recently needed a CT scan and was denied by her Medicare plan. But through Green Imaging she got the scan right away without paying anything.
Because ACA plans are expected to get more expensive and harder to access, PSA partnered with the Kuhlmann Group to make sure members have another option that is affordable and predictable.
