Our Story

In the late 1980s small and mid sized service companies faced mounting costs, shrinking margins, and policies that left them without leverage. In 1988 Ron Sawyer brought peers together to organize and act. The first meeting sparked a movement. By 1989 PSA had taken shape as “The Voice of the Independent Service Industry”.

The 1988 Founding Letter

In 1988 Ron Sawyer wrote a direct, no-nonsense letter to fellow servicers. He named the pressures everyone was facing, asked shops to come together, and set a date to meet. That simple note lit the spark that formed PSA. Read the full letter.

The PSA Logo Through the Years

What began as a logo rooted in our national service community has evolved into a modern identity that reflects PSA’s commitment to connection, innovation, and an expanding membership.

Purpose of the 2025 rebrand

The 2025 refresh keeps the familiar PSA initials while giving the association a clearer, more modern look. More than anything, this update symbolizes our commitment to stay connected, stay relevant, and stay united as the industry grows. It honors PSA’s long history as the oldest organization in the field, while showing our members that we’re ready for the future and prepared to grow right alongside them.
